The organizers of theLiverpool Biennialhave named Aimee Harrison and Lucía Sanromán as cocurators of the event’s fourteenth edition, to take place June 5–September 12, 2027. Though no theme has yet been announced, the biennial will be influenced by the experiences of youth in Liverpool and around the world.

Harrison has served as theLiverpool Biennial’s curator of learning since 2019. Previous roles include those of children and young people’s producer at Heart of Glass, St. Helens, and learning coordinator at FACT Liverpool. Harrison brings a wealth of experience in community projects, having worked extensively with children and adolescents, older people, migrant populations, and those incarcerated in the criminal justice system.

Sanromán is chief curator at Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo in Mexico City. She led Mexico City’s Laboratorio de Arte Alameda for seven years beginning in 2018; and from 2015 to 2018 she was director of visual arts at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco. Over a career spanning three decades, Sanromán has consistently elevated the work of women, feminist, and Indigenous artists, and has organized exhibitions of artists including Tania Bruguera, Suzanne Lacy, and Pedro Lasch.

Liverpool Biennial director Samantha Lackey in a statement highlighted the curatorial team’s disparate viewpoints. “We are absolutely delighted to have both Aimee and Lucía at the helm for Liverpool Biennial 2027,” she said. “This model of co-curation provides opportunity for reciprocal learning, combining an authentic and committed understanding of Liverpool with an international perspective. I look forward to working with Aimee and Lucía over the coming months, as we begin to shape the 2027 festival alongside our regional, national and international partners.” A full list of participating artists will be made public later this year
