Expo Chicago Announces Participants for 2024 Edition

Expo Chicago has revealed the full list of those taking part in this year’s iteration, to take place April 11–14 at the Navy Pier’s Festival Hall. The upcoming edition, which will feature more than 170 galleries from twenty-nine countries and seventy-five cities, is the first to be held under the auspices of international art fair company Frieze, whichpurchasedExpo Chicago last July. “Building on a strong foundation, Frieze has collaborated with Expo Chicago to showcase an elevated experience for visitors and exhibitors alike,” said Kristell Chadé, executive director of FriezeFairs, in a statement. “Through its robust international network of galleries and collectors, Frieze is committed to supporting Expo Chicago’s continued success.”RelatedRUTH FOUNDATION FOR THE ARTS NAMES WINNERS OF INAUGURAL $100,000 RUTH AWARDSTITLE, THEME ANNOUNCED FOR SIXTH AICHI TRIENNALE Nearly one hundred exhibitors who participated in the event last year are returning.

Among these are Los Angeles’s Shulamit Nazarian and Vielmetter Los Angeles; Corbett vs. Dempsey and Rhona Hoffman Gallery, both based in Chicago; New York’s Kasmin; London’s Cristea Roberts; Paris’s Galerie Poggi; and Nara Roesler, which has outposts in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and New York. Roughly thirty exhibitors are back following a hiatus, including the Havana- and Madrid-based El Apartamento, San Francisco’s Haines, and the international Perrotin. About fifty exhibitors are making their debut at the Expo: These include Mexico City’s Labor, New York’s Hannah Traore Gallery, London’s Niru Ratnam, and Seoul’s Hakgojae Gallery.

In addition to the main “Galleries” section, the Expo will feature special sections, including “Exposure,” organized by Rosario Güiraldes, curator of visual art at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, and featuring solo and two-artist presentations represented by galleries that have been in business ten years or less.The “Profile” section presents major projects, ranging from installations to exhibitions, by a single artist or collective. The “Editions + Books” section will feature artist books, editions, and prints, while the “Special Exhibitions” section, formerly known as “IN/SITU,” will present installations scattered throughout the Festival Hall.
