Artnews Reveals Nominees for 2025 Artnews Awards

Artnews has announced the nominees of its second annualArtnews Awards. The platform established the prizes last year to honor “excellence in art achievements at US arts institutions,” per a press release. Qualifying nominees are those who mounted exhibitions in the US between August 1, 2024, and July 31, 2025, and are distributed across six categories: Emerging Artist, Established Artist, Lifetime Achievement, Best Historical Artist, Best Thematic Museum Exhibition, and Best Gallery Group Show. Winners will be announced and lauded on November 11 at an event to take place in New York.

The nominees were selected by a panel composed of Victoria Sung, Phyllis C. Wattis Senior Curator at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, California; Ruba Katrib, chief curator and director of curatorial affairs at MoMA PS1, New York; Ryan N. Dennis, codirector and chief curator of the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston; Anne Ellegood, executive director of the Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Rosario Güiraldes, curator of visual arts at Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; and Alex Greenberger and Maximilíano Durón, both senior editors at Artnews. Each juror named between one and three candidates per category; the full jury voted to choose five finalists per category. The winners will be selected at a forthcoming meeting.

“We are thrilled to announce this year’s nominees for the 2nd annual ARTnewsAwards. Because they are awarded based on exhibitions, the ARTnews Awards truly represent a record of the best bodies of work on view over the past year in the United States,” said Artnews editor in chief Sarah Douglas in a statement. “The nominated exhibitions reflect the excellence and exacting standards of our jury and we can’t wait to celebrate them all this November.”
