Clément Delépine, the director ofArt Basel Paris, is set to joinLafayette Anticipationsas its director. The Paris-based organization is the nonprofit foundation of Galeries Lafayette, Europe’s largest upscale department store chain. Delépine will take over from Rebecca Lamarche-Vadel, who has led the foundation for six years.
Guillaume Houzé, president of Lafayette Anticipations and the great-grandson of one of Galeries Lafayette’s founders, in a statement thanked Lamarche-Vadel for “her energy, vision and hard work, which shaped our programming and bolstered the unique place Lafayette Anticipations occupies in the Parisian and international cultural landscape.” Continued Houzé, “The arrival of Clément Delépine represents the start of an exciting new chapter for Lafayette Anticipations in support of contemporary creation.”
Delépine took up his post with Art Basel in March 2022, shortly after the international art-fair operator ousted French art fair FIAC from its longtime home in the City of Light’s iconic Grand Palais. Prior to his arrival there, he led the independent fair Paris Internationale from 2016 to 2021. Previous roles include those of director at Bortolami Gallery, New York, and, earlier, at the Swiss Institute, also in New York. He will assume his new post at Lafayette Anticipations on November 17, after the forthcoming iteration of Art Basel Paris, slated to take place October 24–26, has ended.
“I warmly congratulate Clément on his appointment as director of Lafayette Anticipations,” said Art Basel CEO Noah Horowitz in a statement. “His spirited leadership and vision have been central to establishing Art Basel Paris as such a strong fixture on the international stage in just three years, and we wish him only the best as he embarks on his next chapter. We are fully focused on working with Clément and the team to execute a stellar Paris edition next month, and continuing to deliver for our clients on a global basis beyond this.”
Delépine in a statement thanked his Horowitz and Vincenzo de Bellis, Art Basel’s chief artistic officer and global director, and expressed excitement over his new role, noting that he was “looking forward to further affirming [Lafeyette Anticipations’] unique positioning on the French and international art scene.”
