TheArt Gallery of New South Wales(AGNSW) has namedMaud Pageas its new director. Page, who since 2017 has served as deputy director and director of collections at the Sydney institution, is the first woman to lead the AGNSW since its founding in 1871. She will step into her new role on March 28, taking the reins from longtime director Michael Brand, who has helmed the museum since 2012 andannounced his departurelast October.
In her previous post, Page helped the gallery attract new audiences through community outreach initiatives, major international exhibitions, and the inauguration of the Children’s Art Library and the Hive Children’s Festival. Too, she elevated First Nations art and arranged high-profile international loans, among them that of the ca. 1500Lady and the Unicorntapestries, which she secured ahead of French president Emmanuel Macron’s 2018 visit. Before joining the AGNSW, Page served as deputy director, collection and exhibitions, at the Queensland Art Gallery, Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane and was a lecturer in museum studies at the University of Sydney.
“With over two decades of experience in art galleries, Maud is highly respected both nationally and internationally for her exceptional curatorial vision and financial acumen,” said AGNSW Trust president Michael Rose in a statement. “Throughout her career, she has been dedicated to community engagement, broadening cultural perspectives and attracting new audiences to public institutions for the benefit of all.”
