Momentum, the Nordic Biennale of Contemporary Art, has revealed the thirty-seven artists participating in its thirteenth edition, to take place between June 14 and October 12 at Galleri F 15 in Moss, Norway. Curated byMorten Søndergaard, this year’s iteration is titledBetween/Worlds: Resonant Ecologiesand will investigate sound as a medium for artistic exploration, inviting audiences to engage with so-called resonant ecologies. Among the facets of sound to be explored are its transformative power; its capacity to reveal connections between land, species, and history; and its ability to uncover shared narratives. The exhibition seeks to examine the porosity of boundaries where sound is concerned, and ultimately to propose an alternative understanding of coexistence informed by resonance and vibration.
Among the included international artists are British electroacoustic composer Natasha Barrett; French sculptor Christian Boltanski (1944–2021); Swiss American composer and artist Christian Marclay; and Colombian artist Juan Pablo Pacheco Bejarano, whose work centers the human relationship with technology. Participants from the Nordic region include Norwegian transdisciplinary artist Frank Ekeberg, whose focus is biodiversity and extinction; Danish artist and designer Mogens Jacobsen, who investigates consumerism and technology; and Swedish composer and artist Carl Michael von Hausswolff, known for works examining electricity, frequency, and tone.
“The artists of Momentum 13 are sonic explorers, revealing the vibrations that shape our shared spaces,” said Søndergaard in a statement. “Their works invite us to listen beyond the surface and discover the interconnected ecologies of sound, technology, and the environment.”
