

(1808 Magdeburg - 1886 Berlin) Two Children Visiting a Stable. Executed in a highly lively, finely detailed style, this animal painting, inspired by nature, showcases a delicate, lacy manner. A portraitist and animal painter, he was a student of Franz Krüger and regularly attended exhibitions at the Berlin Academy, including the 1844 exhibition where an equestrian portrait of Prince Albrecht was presented. In 1860, Randel showed an identical or comparable painting titled "Pony" at the well-known art dealership of Louis Sachs in Berlin, which additionally depicted a young girl, a seated boy, a dog, and several puppies in front of a house door (quote from "Die Dioskuren," issue 18, April 29, 1860, p. 150).
