(1895 Martigues - 1944) In the harbor of Martigues, under an atmospherically colored sky, there is a view of the bay of Martigues, full of fishing boats and people. The painting is executed in the style of late Impressionism, with broad brushstrokes and a masterful depiction of local colors; this characteristic seascape is typical of the artist. Henri Malfroy was likely the son of the painter Charles Malfroy, with whom he is often confused, as both preferred to paint Mediterranean locations in the Bouches-du-Rhône and Var departments on the Provençal Riviera. Henri Malfroy regularly exhibited at the Salon of French Artists and the Salon of Independents in Paris. Oil on canvas; signed and dated, indicating Martigues and the year 1926. 60 cm x 92 cm. Framed.
