(1895 Leipzig – 1960 same place) In the café Lebendig – a picturesque, expressively realistic scene with waiters in uniform and gallant guests. For Schwimmer’s work, this is an exceptionally large sheet of paper, as he preferred small formats for his immediately created works. Schwimmer taught at the Higher School of Applied Arts in Leipzig until his dismissal by the National Socialists in 1933. In 1937, Schwimmer’s works were also destroyed as part of the “Degenerate Art” campaign. From 1946 to 1950, Schwimmer was a professor at the State Academy of Graphic Arts and Book Trade in Leipzig; from 1951 he headed the Graphic Department of the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts. Mixed technique (gouache) on paper mounted on cardboard. Signed. Approximately 49.5 cm x 77 cm. In a frame.
