

Born in Weimar in 1954, this artwork titled "European Striped Image (Gold-Blue)" is a highly impasto and relief-like composition, executed with alternating blue and yellow stripes representing the colors of the European Union. The artist, who studied under Werner Schriefers at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences from 1976 and under Gerhard Hoehme at the Düsseldorf Academy from 1978, engaged with the theme of German reunification and the subsequent formation of the European Union from the very beginning of his artistic career. He is considered one of the most important contemporary German artists and has created an extensive artistic oeuvre, inspired by his great idol Vincent van Gogh, demonstrating exceptional vision. The work is executed in oil on cardboard mounted on a wooden panel. It is signed and titled "Europe (Gold-Blue)" in the center. The reverse side bears the date 1984-88 and provides information about the title and the work. The image dimensions are approximately 62 cm x 78 cm. It is framed.
