(born 1941, Lichfield/Staffordshire/England) "Cloud Diptych." This large-scale work was created in 1988. Nyland is mainly known for his paintings depicting reflections in modern buildings. From 1992 to 2004, he was a member of the Royal Academy. His stylistic use of light and imagery, utilizing the spray gun technique developed at the Royal College of Art, has led to comparisons between Nyland and Georges Braque and Johannes Vermeer. His works have been exhibited in major museums and galleries around the world, including the Tate Gallery in London. Acrylic on canvas; signed on the reverse; label from the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, London, 1989, indicating the title. 147 cm x 229 cm. Provenance: From the Schmidtbank art collection.
