A true find for the genuine collector or porcelain connoisseur! Of collectible interest!! Liqueur bottle, Decanter, Carafe, or Figurine (whichever you prefer) "Seasoned Gendarme", ROBJ, ART DECO FRANCE, late 1920s.
From the most popular collection of liqueur bottles created in 1928 by the design house ROBJ, Paris, France. The bottle is shaped like a person (in this case, a dashing general) with a stopper in the form of a uniform cap. This original item combines the style of the ART DECO era, the charm, and the humor characteristic of all ROBJ creations.
The ROBJ design house was founded in 1908 by Jean Born (JEAN BORN); the name itself is an anagram of his name. In 1922, after Born's death, one of the main shareholders, Lucien Willmetz, became the head of the house, and under his leadership, the company achieved significant success. They were inextricably linked with the style and trends of their time and were prominent representatives of ART DECO and CUBISM. From 1927 to 1931, ROBJ sponsored and held a competition to discover young talented artists and designers called "ART TRINKETS IN CERAMICS". In 1928, they created their super collection of liqueur bottles. In 1927, one critic called ROBJ pieces an integral part of the modern era, comparing their significance to that of Sèvres porcelain for the 18th century...
ROBJ was not a manufactory, but rather a design house, and commissioned the production of its items from leading European manufactories: Sevres, Villeroy et Boch, Limoges, Bologne-sur-Seine.
Decanter dimensions: height - 27 cm; base diameter - 7.5 cm; volume - 650 ml. Looks very striking and atmospheric. Fits extraordinarily well into any interior, always attracts the attention of those around. No defects, cracks, or restoration. The condition for such an item is excellent. A wonderful gift or a worthy specimen for a collection!
