Jean Cocteau (1889 Maisons-Laffitte - 1969 Milly-la-Forêt) Pendant "Chevre pied" with a profile portrait of a young faun, made of earthenware with white chips. Oval, cut-out shape. Trimmed in light blue and white engobe. Catalogue raisonné Guédras 317. Variant of the 4 pendants designed by Cocteau in 1958 and produced in a small series at the Madeleine-Jolly ceramic workshop (Philippe Madeline and Marie-Madeleine Jolly) in Villefranche-sur-Mer. This pendant features Cocteau's characteristic motif and stylistic outlines of a sun-drenched sea.

On the reverse, the signature "Jean Cocteau" with a star is applied in a black brushstroke. Hung on a copper chain. Height 10.2 cm. Cocteau worked as a writer, painter, draftsman, fresco artist, set designer, film director, and ceramist. In 1957, he met the artist couple Marie-Madeleine Jolly and Philippe Madeline, with whom he developed a close friendship. In their workshop, he created unique ceramic pieces until 1963 and developed over 300 ceramic items in small series. Provenance: According to information from the supplier, it belonged to American actor and director Joe (Joseph) Warfield (1937-2022) from Baltimore.
