The central part features a right-facing profile portrait of José Morelos. Below the truncation is the surname of the Mexican national hero, 'MORELOS'. To the left, bottom, and right along the rim is the inscription: one peso, 1948 year, Mexico City Mint, 14 grams, fineness: 'UN PESO 1947 Mo.14 Gr. 0.500.'. Along the edge arc are decorative elements in the form of dentils.
Obverse
The central part depicts the coat of arms of the Mexican Republic: an eagle perched on a cactus, holding a snake in its beak. In the upper part, along the edge arc, is the name of the state 'ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS' (United Mexican States). Below are branches of oak and laurel, tied with a ribbon forming a bow. Along the rim are elements in the form of dentils.
