    The central part features the lesser coat of arms of the Austrian Empire. It depicts a double-headed eagle with spread wings, its heads crowned, above them the Crown of Saint Stephen. In its right talon are a sword and scepter, in its left an orb. On its chest is the family heraldic shield of Habsburg-Lorraine, encircled by a chain. Along the edge of the coin are Latin inscriptions: on the right and left 'HVNG∙BOH∙LOMB∙ET VEN∙GAL∙LOD∙ILL∙REX A∙A∙1859' (King of Hungary, Bohemia, Lombardy and Venice, Galicia, Lodomeria, Illyria, Archduke of Austria 1859), at the bottom '1/4 FL' (1/4 Florin). The coin's edge is decorated with raised dots.

    The center features a right-facing profile of Emperor of the Austrian Empire, King of Bohemia, Franz Joseph I, crowned with a laurel wreath with a ribbon forming a bow. Along the edge of the coin runs a Latin text: on the left, top, and right 'FRANC∙IOS∙I∙D∙G∙AVSTRIAE IMPERATOR' (Franz Joseph I, by the Grace of God, Emperor of Austria), at the bottom the Latin letter 'B' - the mint mark of Kremnica. The coin's edge is decorated with raised dots.
