  • Reverse
    The central part features the lesser coat of arms of the Austrian Empire. It depicts a double-headed eagle with outstretched wings, its heads crowned, above them the Crown of Saint Stephen. In its right talon, the eagle holds a sword and scepter, in its left – an orb. On its chest is the family heraldic shield of Habsburg-Lorraine, encircled by a chain. Below the shield are the highest orders of the empire. Along the upper edge of the coin is a Latin inscription on the right and left: 'HVNG∙BOH∙LOMB∙ET VEN∙GAL∙LOD∙ILL∙REX∙A∙A∙1855' (King of Hungary, Bohemia, Lombardy and Venice, Galicia, Lodomeria, Illyria, Archduke of Austria 1855). Below is the numeral '4', flanked on both sides by a Moor's head pattern. The edge of the coin is decorated with raised dots.

    The central part features a right-facing profile of Franz Joseph I, Emperor of the Austrian Empire and King of Bohemia, crowned with a laurel wreath tied with a ribbon forming a bow. Around the circumference along the rim, from left, top to right, is a Latin inscription: 'FRANC∙IOS∙I∙D∙G∙AVSTRIAE∙IMPERATOR∙' (Franz Joseph I, by the Grace of God, Emperor of Austria). Below is the Latin letter 'A' – the mint mark of the Vienna Mint. The edge of the coin is decorated with raised dots.
