The imperial crown is located in the upper part of the coin. Below it, a four-line inscription reads: ЧИСТАГО СЕРЕБРА 4 ЗОЛОТН. 21 ДОЛЯ (Pure Silver 4 Zolotniks 21 Dolya). Beneath this is a straight line and the designation "С.П.Б." (Saint Petersburg Mint). Along the rim on the left is a laurel branch, and on the right an oak branch. The branches are tied together at the bottom with a ribbon. The edge of the coin is decorated with raised denticles.
  • Obverse
In the center is the State Emblem of the Russian Empire—a double-headed eagle with wings spread and lowered. On the eagle's breast is the coat of arms of Moscow—a shield depicting St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear (the serpent's head is to the right). The heraldic shield, above the eagle's heads, is crowned by the imperial crown. The eagle holds thunderbolts and a torch in its right talon and a laurel wreath in its left, all entwined with the ribbon of the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle the First-Called. Below the ribbon are the letters: "H" on the left and "Г" on the right. These are the initials of Mintmaster Nikolai Grachev. Above the eagle is the denomination designation—the circular inscription "МОНЕТА РУБЛЬ." (COIN RUBLE) separated by a six-pointed star. Below the eagle is the year of mintage "1828 ГОДА." (YEAR). The rim is decorated with short denticles.
