The central part depicts the State Emblem of the Russian Empire — a double-headed eagle with wings spread and lowered. Above the eagle's heads is the imperial crown. On the eagle's breast is the coat of arms of Moscow — a shield with St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear (the serpent's head is to the right). The eagle holds thunderbolts and a torch in its right talon and a laurel wreath in its left, both entwined with the ribbon of the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called. Under the ribbon are the letters: "F" on the left, "Kh" on the right. The initials of Mintmaster Fyodor Khvoshchinsky. Below the initials is the year of mintage "1831."
