The center of the coin is occupied by the monogram of Empress Catherine II Alexeevna the Great. Above it is the crown of the Russian Empire. To the left of the monogram is the first part of the minting year — '17', and to the right the second — '65'. In the left part of the coin, along the edge of the rim, runs a laurel branch, and in the right part, a palm branch. At the base, the branches are tied with a ribbon, the knot of which forms a bow. The rim of the coin is made in the form of teeth. The rim is decorated with dots.
  • Obverse
The center of the obverse is occupied by the lesser coat of arms of the Russian Empire — a double-headed eagle with wings spread. The eagle's heads bear crowns, and a third, larger crown is above and between the heads. On the eagle's chest is the coat of arms of Moscow — a shield depicting St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear (the serpent's head is to the right). Around the shield is the chain of the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called. In its right talon, the eagle holds a scepter, and in its left — an orb. At the lower edge is a curved ribbon with the inscription: FIVE • KOPEKS. The rim is decorated with dots.
