Reverse
In the central part of the reverse is a relief image of the monument to Dmitry Donskoy on the Kulikovo Field (1850, architect A.P. Bryullov), below — two swords and a shield, on the left — two birds, on the right — the outline of a church. Around the circumference is the text: at the top — '1000th ANNIVERSARY OF RUSSIA · DMITRY DONSKOY', at the bottom — 'MONUMENT TO DMITRY DONSKOY', separated by a stylized ornament.
Obverse
In the upper part along the rim arc is the coin's denomination '50 RUBLES' and the year of minting '1996', below the words 'BANK OF RUSSIA'. In the center, within a dotted circle, is a double-headed eagle. Below it, on the inside of the dotted circle, on the left is the chemical symbol Au and fineness 900, then to the right the manufacturer's (mint) mark 'MMD' and the chemically pure weight of the precious metal in grams '7.78'.
