In the central part of the reverse is a relief image of the coat of arms of Moscow depicting Saint George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a winged serpent with a spear. At the top, along the circumference, the inscription: 850-летие ОснованиЯ Москвы (850th Anniversary of the Foundation of Moscow).
Obverse
At the top, along the rim arc, is the coin's denomination '50 рублей' (50 rubles) and the year of issue '1997 г.', below are the words 'БАНК РОССИИ' (BANK OF RUSSIA). In the center, within a dotted circle, is a double-headed eagle. Below it, inside the dotted circle on the left, is the chemical symbol Au and fineness 900, then to the right the mint mark 'ЛМД' (LMD) and the chemically pure weight of the precious metal in grams '7,78'.
