The imperial crown is located in the upper part of the coin. Below it, on four lines, is the inscription: ЧИСТАГО СЕРЕБРА 4 ЗОЛОТН. 21 ДОЛЯ (Pure Silver 4 Zolotniks 21 Dolya). Beneath it is a straight line and the designation 'S.P.B.' (Saint Petersburg Mint). Along the rim on the left is a laurel branch, and on the right an oak branch. The branches are tied together at the bottom with a ribbon. The edge of the coin is stamped with relief denticles.
Obverse
In the central part is the State Emblem of the Russian Empire — a double-headed eagle with wings spread and lowered. On the eagle's breast is the coat of arms of Moscow — a shield depicting St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear (the serpent's head is to the right). The heraldic shield, above the eagle's heads, is crowned by the imperial crown. The eagle holds thunderbolts and a torch in its right talon and a laurel wreath in its left, all entwined with the ribbon of the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called. Below the ribbon are the letters: 'H' on the left and 'Г' on the right. These are the initials of Mintmaster Nikolai Grachev. Above the eagle is the denomination designation — the circular inscription 'МОНЕТА РУБЛЬ.' (COIN RUBLE) separated by a six-pointed star. Below the eagle is the year of minting '1827 ГОДА.' (YEAR). The rim is decorated with short denticles.
