  • Reverse
The center of the coin is occupied by the monogram of Empress Catherine II Alekseyevna the Great. Above it is the crown of the Russian Empire. To the left of the monogram is the first part of the minting year — '17', and to the right the second — '65'. In the left part of the coin, a laurel branch runs along the circumference of the rim, and in the right part, a palm branch. At the base, the branches are tied with a ribbon, the knot of which forms a bow. The coin's border is made in the form of denticles.
  • Obverse
The center of the obverse is occupied by the lesser coat of arms of the Russian Empire — a double-headed eagle with wings spread. The eagle's heads bear crowns, and a third, larger crown is above and between the heads. On the eagle's chest is the coat of arms of Moscow — a shield depicting St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear (the serpent's head is to the right). Around the shield is the chain of the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle the First-Called. In its right talon, the eagle holds a scepter, and in its left — an orb. Under the right talon is the letter 'M', under the left — the letter 'M'. The mintmark of the Krasny (Red) Mint. Along the lower edge is a curved ribbon with the inscription: FIVE • KOPEKS
