Reverse The center of the reverse is occupied by the coat of arms of the Russian Empire—a double-headed eagle, both heads of which bear crowns. A third, larger crown is positioned above and between the eagle's heads. On the eagle's breast is a cartouche depicting the cross of St. Andrew the Apostle. In its right talon, the eagle holds a scepter, and in its left, an orb. The large crown divides the date of issue—'17-55'. Around the eagle is a circular inscription: ЕЛИСАВЕТИНЪ ЗОЛОТОI•ЦЕНА•ПЯТЬ РУБЛЕ•
Obverse The center of the obverse features the right-facing profile of the Russian Empress Elizabeth I Petrovna. From left to right along the edge in an arc runs the inscription: Б•М•ЕЛИСАВЕТЪ•I•IМП•IСАМОД•ВСЕРОС. In the lower part, beneath the portrait, is the abbreviation 'С П Б' (Saint Petersburg Mint).
