    The denomination is indicated on three lines (with quatrefoils to the left and right), followed by the monetary unit and the year of issue: ✤ 3 ✤ KOPĒĬKI 1859. Below is a divider of two ornamental lines with a dot between them. Immediately beneath it is the abbreviation 'E.M.' (Yekaterinburg Mint).
  • Obverse
    The center of the obverse features a double-headed eagle — the coat of arms of the Russian Empire. Both eagle heads bear crowns, with a larger third crown between them. On the eagle's breast is the coat of arms of Moscow — a shield depicting St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear (the serpent's head is to the right). The shield is surrounded by the chain of the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle the First-Called. The coats of arms on the wings: Left wing: Polish, Taurida, Finnish. Right wing: Kazan, Astrakhan, Siberian. In its right talon is a scepter, and in its left, an orb. The rim is decorated with denticles pointing inward.
