    In the central part of the reverse is a relief image of the architectural ensemble of the Registan. Below it is a decorative line in the form of a spiral. Further below is the inscription 'SAMARKAND'. At the top, along the outer rim of the coin, the inscription 'REGISTAN' is placed in a semicircle. Below it, the dates 'XV-XVII CENTURIES' and a decorative pattern are arranged in a semicircle.

    In the upper part of the coin is the State Emblem of the USSR, encircled by a ribbon (15 turns), below it the letters 'USSR', slightly lower the denomination of the coin is indicated by the numeral '5' and below the word 'RUBLES'. At the edge of the lower part is the year of minting '1989'.
