On the eagle's breast is the coat of arms of Moscow—an oval shield depicting St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear (the serpent's head is to the right). A chain bearing the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called encircles the shield. In its right talon the eagle holds a scepter, and in its left an orb. Above the eagle is the mint year '•1785•'. Around the circumference, along the rim, the inscription reads: MON•TSENA•DVA•RUBLI. The edge is decorated with denticles.
  • Obverse
The center of the obverse is occupied by the right-facing profile of Empress Catherine II. Around the portrait, the inscription reads: B•M•EKATERINA•II•IMP•ISAMOD•VSEROS• Below is the abbreviation 'S P B' (Saint Petersburg Mint). The rim consists of denticles.
