The denomination is indicated on three lines (with four-leaf clovers to the left and right), followed by the monetary unit and the year of minting: ✤ 5 ✤ KOPĒEKŲ 1857. Below is a divider of two curved lines with a dot between them. Immediately beneath it is the abbreviation 'E.M.' (Yekaterinburg Mint).
  • Obverse
The center of the obverse features a double-headed eagle — the coat of arms of the Russian Empire. Both eagle heads bear crowns, with a larger third crown between them. On the eagle's breast is the coat of arms of Moscow — a shield depicting St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear (the serpent's head is to the right). The shield is surrounded by the chain of the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle the First-Called. The coats of arms on the wings are: Left wing: Polish, Taurian, Finnish. Right wing: Kazan, Astrakhan, Siberian. The right talon holds a scepter, and the left holds an orb. The rim is decorated with denticles pointing inward.
