The denomination is indicated on three lines (with four-leaf ornaments to the left and right), followed by the monetary unit and the year of minting: ✤ 5 ✤ KOPĒEKŲ 1865. Below is a divider consisting of two ornamental lines with a dot between them. Immediately beneath it is the abbreviation 'E.M.' (Ekaterinburg Mint).
  • Obverse
The center of the obverse features the lesser coat of arms of the Russian Empire—a double-headed eagle. Both eagle heads bear crowns, with a third, larger crown between them. All three crowns are connected by a ribbon. On the eagle's breast is the coat of arms of Moscow—a shield depicting St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear (the serpent's head is to the left). The shield is surrounded by the chain of the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle the First-Called. The wings bear the coats of arms (four on each wing): Kazan, Poland, Taurica, Astrakhan, Siberia, Georgia, Kiev and Novgorod, Vladimir. In its right talon, the eagle holds a scepter, and in its left, an orb.
