In the central part, the logo of the Greek Presidency: a stylized ship with the three-line inscription "GR 2014 EU"; above the emblem, a stylized acanthus leaf – the mintmark of the Athens Mint. Around the emblem, the inscription "Greek Presidency of the Council of the EU" is presented in two languages (Greek and English): «ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΠΡΟΕΔΡΙΑ ΤΟΥ ΣΥΜΒΟΥΛΙΟΥ ΤΗΣ ΕΕ», «GREEK PRESIDENCY OF THE EU COUNCIL». Along the edge of the coin is a complex pattern consisting of twelve evenly distributed five-pointed stars over five broken lines.
