    In the foreground is a troop of armed horsemen riding along a large river; in the background, on the river banks, are stylized images of ancient Russian cities labeled: "Izborsk", "Novgorod", "Ladoga", "Belozersk", "Rostov", "Murom". On a wide band formed by the rim and a concentric circular line, an inscription runs from left down to right: "1150th ANNIVERSARY OF THE ORIGIN OF RUSSIAN STATEHOOD". In the upper part of the band is an ornament of wavy lines.
