In the central part is a right-facing portrait of the Roman poet Publius Ovidius Naso. To his right is the year of issue '2008', below a stylized pattern. Along the upper edge arc is the poet's name in English 'PUBLIUS OVIDIUS NASO'. At the bottom, the name and years of life in the city of Tomis, 'a.d. VIII TOMIS a.d. XVIII'.
Obverse
In the center is the coat of arms of Romania. It is a heraldic shield depicting an eagle holding a sword in one talon and a scepter in the other, with a cross in its beak.
