The central part features silhouettes of French Navy vessels. Above them, within a stylized frame, is the inscription 10 EURO. Along the upper edge arc is the series name 'Les Grands Navires Francais', which translates from French as 'Great Ships of France'. The lower part depicts a fragment of a ship's chain and the mint year '2014', flanked on the left by a cornucopia (the mintmark of the Paris Mint) and on the right by a pentagon – the privy mark of the Chief Engraver of the Paris Mint, Yves Sampo.
Obverse
Centered against a backdrop of a bridge and city, the cruiser is depicted. Above the bridge are a left-facing portrait of Jean-Baptiste Colbert and his family coat of arms. Along the lower edge arc is the ship's name 'Le Colbert', named after the French statesman. The abbreviation 'RF' (République Française) is engraved on the left.
