Reverse
In the central part, an inscription in four lines: 3РУБЛЯ.20ZLOTYCH. The numeral 3 is flanked on both sides by floral rosettes. Below the inscription is the year of mintage — 1841. Below the date — the letters С.П.Б., the designation of the Saint Petersburg Mint. In the upper part of the reverse, an inscription follows along the arc: ЧИСТАГО ЗОЛОТА 81 ДОЛЯ (81 Dolias of Pure Gold). The rim is decorated with dentils pointing towards the center.
Obverse
In the central part is the State Emblem of the Russian Empire — a double-headed eagle, its heads crowned with two coronets, a third, larger crown above them. On the eagle's breast is the Moscow coat of arms, within the shield St. George the Victorious on horseback spearing a dragon. Surrounding the shield is the chain of the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called. On the wings are depicted the titular coats of arms: on the right — Kazan, Astrakhan, and Siberian; on the left — Polish, Taurican, and Finnish. In its right talon the eagle holds a scepter, and in its left — an orb. Under the right talon is the letter 'A', under the left — the letter 'Ч'. The initials of Mintmaster Alexei Chadov. The rim is decorated with denticles.
