    The denomination (with five-petal rosettes to the left and right) and monetary unit are indicated on two lines: ✿ 5 ✿ RUBLES Below is a decorative divider in the form of two opposing ornamental lines with a dotted rosette between them. Under the divider is the year of mintage "1848". Between the edge and the center of the coin is a rim of closely spaced dots. Between the edge and the rim, the text runs in a circle: PURE GOLD 1 ZOLOTNIK 39 PARTS The coin's edge is decorated with denticles.
  • Obverse
    In the central part is the State Emblem of the Russian Empire — a double-headed eagle, its heads crowned with two coronets, a third, larger crown above them. On the eagle's breast is the Moscow coat of arms, within the shield St. George the Victorious on horseback spearing a serpent (the serpent's head is to the right). Surrounding the shield is the chain of the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called. The coats of arms on the wings: Left wing: Polish, Taurican, Finnish. Right wing: Kazan, Astrakhan, Siberian. In the right talon is a scepter, and above it the letter "M". In the left talon is an orb, and above it the letter "W". Together the letters indicate the Warsaw Mint. The edge is decorated with denticles pointing towards the center.
