Behind him is a contour image of a running athlete. On the upper section of the running track is the text: WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, and on the lower section: 'IN ATHLETICS'. In the background, at the bottom right, is a stylized contour image of the Spasskaya Tower of the Moscow Kremlin. To the right of it is a two-line inscription: '2013 MOSCOW'. On the matte areas at the top and bottom near the edge are small stars.
Obverse
In the upper part, along the rim arc, the coin's denomination 'THREE RUBLES' is inscribed. Slightly below on the left are the metal designation from Mendeleev's periodic table, Ag, and the fineness 925. Below, in the center, is the year of mintage '2013'. Below, on the right, are the weight of the precious metal in pure content 31.10 and the producer's (mint) mark 'MMD'. In the central part of a characteristic dotted circle is a double-headed eagle, and below it is the inscription of the coin's issuer 'BANK OF RUSSIA'.
