The denomination (with five-leaf rosettes to the left and right) and monetary unit are indicated on two lines: ✿ 5 ✿ RUBLES Below is a decorative divider consisting of two opposing ornamental lines with a small raised eight-pointed star between them. Under the divider is the year of mintage '1858'. Below the year is the abbreviation 'S.P.B.' (Saint Petersburg Mint). Between the edge and the center of the coin is a border of closely spaced dots. Between the edge and this border, a circular inscription runs: CHISTAGO ZOLOTA 1 ZOLOTNIK 39 DOLY The edge of the coin is decorated with a rim of sharp teeth pointing towards the center.
Obverse
The central part features the State Emblem of the Russian Empire – a double-headed eagle, its heads crowned with two coronets, and a third, larger crown above them. On the eagle's breast is the Moscow coat of arms, within the shield St. George the Victorious on horseback spearing a dragon. Surrounding the shield is the chain of the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called. On the wings are depicted the titular coats of arms: on the right – Kazan, Astrakhan, and Siberian; on the left – Polish, Taurican, and Finnish. In its right talon the eagle holds a scepter, and in its left – an orb. Under the right talon is the letter 'P', under the left – the letter 'F'. The initials of Mintmaster Pavel Follendorf. The rim is decorated with teeth pointing towards the center.
