On the surface of the brilliant mirror field of the coin, on the right, is a relief portrait of A.S. Shein in ceremonial old Russian dress holding a mace. To the left of him, on a fragment of a stone wall, is a cartouche with dates in two lines: '1662' and '1700'. Behind the wall are generalized symbols of military victories and reforms: a soldier in European dress, a mortar, a spear with a pennant-badge, a bardiche, and the banner of the second Azov campaign. In the background is a fortress tower. In the center are a rowing sloop and a sailing ship on calm water. Along the rim on the right is the text: A.S. SHEIN.

Slightly below on the left, the metal designation from Mendeleev's periodic table 'Ag' and the fineness '925' are indicated. Below, in the center, the year of mintage '2013' is placed. Below, on the right, the weight of the precious metal in pure form '155.50' and the manufacturer's (mint) mark 'MMD' are struck. In the central part of the characteristic dotted border is a double-headed eagle, and below it is struck the name of the coin's issuer 'BANK OF RUSSIA'.
