  • Reverse
The center of the reverse is occupied by the coat of arms of the Russian Empire—a double-headed eagle, both heads wearing crowns. A third, larger crown is above and between them. On the eagle's breast is the coat of arms of Moscow—a shield depicting St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear (the serpent's head is to the right). The shield is surrounded by the chain of the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle. In its right talon the eagle holds a scepter, and in its left an orb. Below the right talon is the letter 'M', below the left talon is another 'M'. These are the initials of mintmaster Mikhail Mikhailov. Above the eagle is the year of mintage: '1783'. Around the state emblem, in an arc from right to left, is the inscription: ПОЛꙊПОЛТИННИКЪ (HALF POLTINA). The rim is toothed.
  • Obverse
The center of the obverse features the right-facing profile of Russian Empress Catherine II. In the lower part, beneath the portrait, is the abbreviation 'С П Б' (Saint Petersburg Mint). Along the edge, in an arc starting from the lower left, is the inscription: Б•М•ЕКАТЕРИНА•II•IМП•ИСАМОД•ВСЕРОСС• (B•M•CATHERINE•II•EMP•AND AUTOCRAT•OF ALL RUSSIA). The rim is toothed.
