On the eagle's chest is the coat of arms of Moscow—an oval shield depicting St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear (the serpent's head is to the right). The shield is surrounded by the chain of the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle the First-Called. In its right talon, the eagle holds a scepter, and in its left, an orb. Above the eagle is the minting year '•1766•'. Around the circumference, along the rim, is the text: IСАМОДЕРЖ•ВСЕРОСИСКАЯ
  • Obverse
The center of the obverse is occupied by the right-facing profile of Empress Catherine II. Around the portrait is the text: Б•М•ЕКАТЕРИНА•II•IМПЕРАТРИЦА• On the lower left part of the portrait are the mintmaster's initials 'T•I', indicating Timofey Ivanov. In the lower part, beneath the portrait, is the abbreviation 'С П Б' (Saint Petersburg Mint).
