  • Reverse
    In the central part of the reverse is a relief image of the goddess of wisdom Minerva, the patroness of sciences, crafts, arts, and peaceful labor. To the right: an open book, on the pages of which, in the upper left, are profiles of the Academy's founder Peter I and scientists with inscriptions below them in two lines: 'PETER I EULER LOMONOSOV', in the lower right are buildings of the Academy of Sciences; above the book is a double-headed eagle crowned with a crown. At the top along the circumference is the text: RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES; at the bottom is an inscription in two lines: 'FOUNDED IN 1724'.

    In the upper part along the arc of the rim is the denomination of the coin 'THREE RUBLES', slightly below on the left is the metal designation from Mendeleev's periodic table Ag and the fineness 900, below in the center is the year of minting '1999', below on the right is the weight of the precious metal in pure form 31.10 and the mint mark 'SPMD'. In the central part of the characteristic dotted rim is a double-headed eagle, and below it is the name of the coin's issuer 'BANK OF RUSSIA'.
