Reverse
On the matte field of the coin is a relief image of a desert landscape; in the background on the left are ruins of buildings; in the foreground on the right is a figure of a walking camel with a rider, executed with contour lines and mirrored sections of the coin's field; the head and front part of another camel following them are visible; through the figure of the front camel, a mosque building depicted in the background is discernible; in the lower left part of the field is a three-line inscription stylized as handwriting: 'THE GREAT SILK ROAD'; in the upper left near the rim is the emblem of the Eurasian Economic Community.
Obverse
In the upper part along the rim's arc is the denomination of the coin 'THREE RUBLES'; slightly below on the left is the metal designation from Mendeleev's periodic table Ag and the fineness 925; below in the center is the year of minting '2011'; below on the right is the weight of the precious metal in pure form 31.10 and the designation of the manufacturer (mint) 'SPMD'. In the central part of a characteristic dotted circle is a double-headed eagle, and below it is the name of the coin's issuer 'BANK OF RUSSIA'.
