    On the mirror field on the left is a portrait of N.V. Gogol (drawing by A.A. Ivanov, 1841), on the upper right is the writer's facsimile signature: 'N. GOGOL', transitioning into a stylized image of a whip raised by a coachman over a galloping troika of horses; below on a matte crescent-shaped surface are the dates '1809-1852'.

    In the upper part along the rim arc is the coin's denomination 'THREE RUBLES', slightly lower on the left is the metal designation from Mendeleev's periodic table Ag and fineness 925, below in the center is the mintage year '2009', lower on the right is the weight of pure precious metal 31.10 and the manufacturer's (mint) designation 'SPMD'. In the central part of a characteristic dotted rim is a double-headed eagle, and below it is stamped the name of the coin's issuer 'BANK OF RUSSIA'.
