    In the central part of the reverse are relief images of the Academy of Sciences building in St. Petersburg, two sailing ships, and a boat. Above the images is the text: SAINT PETERSBURG. Around the circumference are inscriptions: at the top – 'AGE OF ENLIGHTENMENT · 18th CENTURY', at the bottom – 'ACADEMY OF SCIENCES'.

    In the upper part along the rim arc is the coin's denomination '3 rubles' and the year of mintage '1992'. Below are the words 'BANK OF RUSSIA'. In the center, within a dotted circle, is a double-headed eagle. Below it, on the inner side of the dotted circle, starting from the left, are the chemical symbol Ag and fineness 900, followed to the right by the manufacturer's (mint) mark 'MMD' and the chemically pure weight of the precious metal in grams: 31.10.
