The central part features the denomination 'MONETA RUBL' in two lines. Above the denomination is the Crown of the Russian Empire. Below the denomination is a decorative divider consisting of two oppositely curved lines with a small circle between them, featuring a raised dot in its center. Slightly below this divider is the coin's year of issue '1837', beneath which is the abbreviation 'S.P.B.' (Saint Petersburg Mint). Along the left edge of the coin is a laurel branch, and along the right edge is an oak branch. The branches are tied together at the base with a ribbon, the knot of which forms a bow. The entire edge of the coin is surrounded by raised denticles.
  • Obverse
The center of the obverse is separated from the edge by a beaded circle. Inside the circle is a double-headed eagle, the coat of arms of the Russian Empire. Both eagle heads bear crowns, and a third, larger crown is positioned between them. All three crowns are connected by a ribbon. On the eagle's breast is the coat of arms of Moscow—a shield depicting St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear (the serpent's head is to the right). The shield is surrounded by the chain of the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle. The coats of arms on the wings are: Left wing: Polish, Tauridian, Finnish. Right wing: Kazan, Astrakhan, Siberian. In its right talon, the eagle holds a scepter, below which is the letter 'N'. In its left talon, it holds an orb, below which is the letter 'G'. Together, these letters form the initials of mintmaster Nikolai Grachev. In the upper part of the obverse is an eight-pointed star with a dot inside, visually marking the beginning of the line: 'CHISTAGO SEREBRA 4 ZOLOTNIKA 21 DOLIA' (Pure Silver 4 Zolotniks 21 Dolias). The rim is decorated with denticles pointing inward.
