  • Reverse
The center of the reverse is occupied by the coat of arms of the Russian Empire—a double-headed eagle, both heads of which bear crowns. A third, larger crown is above and between them. On the eagle's breast is the coat of arms of Moscow—a shield depicting St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear (the serpent's head is to the right). The shield is surrounded by the chain of the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle. In its right talon the eagle holds a scepter, and in its left an orb. Under the right talon is the letter 'F', under the left the letter 'L'. These are the initials of mintmaster Fyodor Lesnikov. Above the eagle is the year of mintage—'1777'. Around the state coat of arms, following the curve from right to left, is the inscription: MONETA •POLTINA• The edge is toothed.
  • Obverse
The center of the obverse features a right-facing profile portrait of the Russian Empress Catherine II. In the lower part, beneath the portrait, is the abbreviation 'S P B' (Saint Petersburg Mint). Along the edge, following the curve from the lower left, is the inscription: B•M•EKATERINA•II•IMP•ISAMOD•VSEROSS• The edge is toothed.
