    The central part features a cartouche with a two-line inscription: ГРИВЕННИКЪ (GRIVENNIK). Below the inscription is the mintage year — 1773. Above the cartouche is the crown of the Russian Empire. To the left and right, two laurel branches extend from the cartouche's vignettes.
  • Obverse
    The center of the obverse is occupied by the right-facing profile of Russian Empress Catherine II. On the lower left part of the portrait are the mintmaster's initials 'T•I•', indicating Timofei Ivanov. At the bottom, below the portrait, is the abbreviation 'С П Б' (Saint Petersburg Mint). Along the edge, an inscription runs in an arc from the lower left: Б•М•ЕКАТЕРИНА•II•IМП•IСАМОД•ВСЕРОСС• (B•M•CATHERINE•II•EMP•AUTOCRAT•OF ALL RUSSIA).
