The central part features the denomination 'MONETA RUBL' in two lines. Above the denomination is the Crown of the Russian Empire. Below the denomination is a decorative divider consisting of two oppositely directed ornamental lines with a small raised dot between them. Below the divider is the year of mintage '1851'. Below the year is the abbreviation 'S.P.B.' (Saint Petersburg Mint). In the left part of the coin, along the edge, is a laurel branch, and in the right part, an oak branch. At the base, the branches are tied with a ribbon forming a neat bow. The entire edge of the coin is stamped with raised denticles.
  • Obverse
The central part depicts the State Emblem of the Russian Empire – a double-headed eagle, its heads crowned with two crowns, and a third, larger crown above them. On the eagle's breast is the coat of arms of Moscow – a shield with St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear (the serpent's head is to the right). Surrounding the shield is the chain of the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called. On the wings are depicted the titular coats of arms: on the right – Kazan, Astrakhan, and Siberian; on the left – Polish, Taurican, and Finnish. In its right talon, the eagle holds a scepter, and in its left – an orb. Under the right talon is the letter 'P', under the left – the letter 'A'. The initials of mintmaster Pavel Alekseev. The center of the obverse is enclosed within a braided border. At the top is an eight-petalled flower, visually indicating the start of the inscription: CHISTAGO SEREBRA 4 ZOLOTNIKA 21 DOLIA. The rim is decorated with short denticles.
