In the central part, an inscription in four lines: ЧИСТАГО ЗОЛОТА 1 ЗОЛОТН=39 ДОЛЕЙ (Pure Gold 1 Zolotnik=39 Dolias). In the upper part of the coin (above the inscription) is the crown of the Russian Empire. Below the inscription runs a decorative line with a rhombus in the middle and the abbreviation С.П.Б. (Saint Petersburg Mint). Along the left edge of the coin is a laurel branch, and along the right edge an oak branch. At the base, the branches are tied together with a ribbon forming a bow. The entire edge of the coin is stamped with raised denticles.

In the central part is the State Emblem of the Russian Empire — a double-headed eagle with wings spread and lowered. On the eagle's chest is the coat of arms of Moscow — a shield depicting St. George the Victorious on horseback, slaying a serpent with a long spear (the serpent's head is to the right). The heraldic shield, above the eagle's heads, is crowned with the imperial crown. The eagle holds thunderbolts and a torch in its right talon and a laurel wreath in its left, entwined with the ribbon of the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called. Below the ribbon are the letters: on the left "П", on the right "Д". The initials of Mintmaster Pavel Danilov. Above the eagle is the denomination designation — the circular inscription "ПЯТЬ РУБЛЕЙ." (FIVE RUBLES). Below the eagle — the year of minting "1828 ГОДА." (YEAR 1828). The rim is decorated with short denticles.
