In its right talon, the eagle holds a scepter, and in its left, an orb. On the eagle's tail — the letter 'L'. Mintmaster's mark of Johann Luvis LANG (Иоганн Лювис ЛАНГ — in Russian interpretation Ivan LANG). Around the eagle, the text: МОНЕТА НОВАѦ ЦЕНА РУБЛЬ ҂АѰИI (1718). Along the edge — a twisted dotted border.

    The center of the obverse is occupied by the right-facing profile of Peter I, crowned with a laurel wreath. Along the edge, surrounding the Emperor's profile, is a circular inscription: ЦРЬ • ПЕТРЬ • АЛЕѯIЕВИЧЪ • ВСЕѦ • РОСИI • САМОДЕРЖЕЦЬ • The rim appears as a braided rope.
